Over the past decade, Florida local governments have committed to data-driven decision-making and performance management through adoption of certification programs. Many cities and counties started with the FGBC Local Government Standard then proceeded to use the national STAR Community Rating System. Currently, 30 local governments are registered and 18 are certified in USGBC’s LEED for Cities program, more than any other state in the country.

As a coastal state, Florida’s cities and counties are on the front lines of climate change; in fact, the world’s first ever chief heat officer was appointed in Miami-Dade County. Local leaders are accelerating efforts to plan, prioritize and make investments to protect the health, safety and welfare of residents and communities.

This backdrop creates an opportunity for LEED for Cities to further engage with local leaders across the state to build even stronger networks for practitioners working to solve critical sustainability issues.

For this LEED for Cities Showcase we’ll host an informal dialogue with local leaders around the state to learn what they are proud of, what their priorities are, and what they believe to be the secret recipe to their success around collaboration and partnership. The conversation will include representatives from Miami-Dade County, Orange County, Palm Beach County, Tallahassee, and Tampa. Audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions of our panelists.

This event has been approved by GBCI for 1 CE Hour(s) for the following specialties LEED AP ND.
