Event description
Go for Gold: LEED for Communities and Your Local College

About this Event

If you're wondering whether students at your local college or university are interested in sustainability, the answer is clear, they have a real passion for what it means to be good stewards of our environment. Building sustainable communities using the LEED for Communities/Cities rating system can seem to be an insurmountable task, but many communities have young professionals eager to learn. This session will demonstrate how communities can do the necessary leg work using students through a partnership with local colleges and universities. It will show how LEED for Communities can leverage ongoing successes like the NYS Olympic Regional Development Authority's Gore Mountain Sustainability efforts, and propel communities into a balanced triple bottom line approach for success.

Learning Objectives - By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand how LEED for Communities can be used across the spectrum of community types.
  2. Understand the value of colleges/universities to execute LEED for Communities/Cities.
  3. Understand the key metrics and flexibility of LEED for Communities rating system to establish a baseline and monitor ongoing performance across the community.
  4. Participants will be able to have a concept of how to bring the LEED for Communities/Cities rating system to fruition in their community.
