Event description

Description

  • Are you thinking of transitioning to a full-time job in policy or advocacy?

  • Are you curious to learn what a job in policy or advocacy looks like?

  • Are you not sure what the difference between policy and advocacy is?

Then this training is for you!

Any LEE member who wants to learn more about careers in policy and advocacy but isn’t quite ready to make the transition is encouraged to attend. No previous knowledge of policy or advocacy is required to participate. This seven-hour day-long LEE training will help you answer these questions and identify next steps you can take to prepare for the next step in your career. RSVP Today!

Not sure if you’re a LEE member? Register here.

Workshop Content - After this day-long training, you will:

  • Better understand policy/advocacy as a potential career track and clarify your interest in pursuing policy and/or advocacy as a career

  • Gain exposure to the key skills required for policy and advocacy careers

  • Help build your network with local policy and advocacy leaders

  • Build your understanding of what policymaking entails and the impact it can have

  • Get connected to policy resources, opportunities and local networks

Workshop Outline

  • What is Policymaking? -- A case study in the policymaking cycle

  • A Day in the Life -- A simulation of policy work

  • Lunch

  • Expanding Your Policy Network -- A guest panel of local policymakers and advocates

  • Closure -- Takeaways, summer fellow applications, and upcoming opportunities

What is expected of me?

There is no cost to attend this training, but in exchange for LEE’s time, resources, and love, we ask that you commit to attend the entire workshop and that you bring your full, authentic self the entire day.

Additionally, we ask that you work with LEE staff to follow up on the commitments you made to continue your learning, including potentially applying to the Policy and Advocacy Summer Fellowship.
