The Exploring Public Leadership Workshop is a one-day training for LEE members who want to learn more about the political landscape of the DC Region, develop tools for social impact, and explore pathways to becoming an agent of change in the movement for educational equity.
Who should sign up?
All members who are starting to explore ways to influence change beyond the classroom, but don’t yet have a clear path for their leadership. This workshop will explore impacting social justice through advocacy, organizing, policy, and/or elected leadership. In addition to registering, please also complete the pre-survey by Monday, November 7, so that we can adapt the programming to your needs.
Members will explore their identity in the context of their community and peers. They will be led through explorations of leadership and deepen their diversity and equity lens as the foundation to public leadership on behalf of kids.
Exploring Methods of Change
This session will provide members with a deeper understanding of 4 methods of change: advocacy, organizing, policy, and elected leadership with examples of leveraging these methods of influencing change. They will hear from key leaders in this work, develop foundational skills, and identify how they can get more involved.
How Will I Lead?
This session will lead members through pathways to leadership through conversations with other LEE members in more senior roles and help them to identify short-term goals, longer-term goals, and next steps they’ll take to deepen their engagement in the community.
What will I be equipped to do?
After completing this series, you will:
Explore your identity and core values, how these inform your leadership, and the change you want to make.
Identify specific ways you can use politics, policy, advocacy and organizing to achieve this change.
Learn more about ways to get involved with LEE and how you can leverage LEE in achieving your goals.
What is expected of me?
In exchange for LEE’s time, resources, and love, we ask that you commit to attend the entire workshop and that you bring your full, authentic self for the entire duration.
Additionally, there will be pre- and post-work to maximize impact of our time together and inform subsequent coaching sessions. You will be asked to engage in at least one one-on-one following the workshop.
If you have any questions please email DC Regional Manager Ben Bennett (firstname.lastname@example.org).
