LEE members of white identity who complete this series will be equipped to:

  • Speak to how their white identities play into their leadership and work in the complex Bay Area education landscape

  • Better understand how their identities, socialization, and leadership are shaped by their white privilege

  • Assess bias and internalized racial superiority in their lives and work

  • Engage strategically in collective action work with other white LEE members aspiring toward anti-racist ways of being

Why is it important for white LEE members to explore whiteness and identity as we prepare them to lead in marginalized communities?

  • Exploring identity helps leaders understand their place in oppressive and privileged spaces. It helps us to understand what we might be missing.

  • Unpacking identities from a historical perspective, assists in understanding place. In understanding place and history, we are better equipped to strategize impact for social change.
