About this event

On Saturday the 1st of November, from 2 - 3pm, Lubomyr Melnyk will be delivering a free, informal and flexible talk with a short recital for demonstration about his philosophy-technique for piano, called "continuous music", the discovery and development of which he attributes partially to his Ukrainian heritage. It will be an open Q&A: he is willing to talk about whatever audience members are willing to talk about.

Lubomyr's more spiritual approach to piano has allowed him to become the fastest pianist in the world, sustaining phenomenal speeds and energies for concert pieces which can last as long as three hours or more, but speed is not the point: it is a side effect of the general weightlessness and deep contact with the piano he experiences. He describes his music as the "Operatic Voice" for the piano - as opposed to the regular, classical singing and ordinary speaking voices - where the sound he produces is incredibly rich, emergent, multi-dimensional and tangible in a way that traditional piano music (even at its most elite) is not.

Though, Lubomyr absolutely reveres the classical musical greats such as Beethoven and in no way believes his music is better: only different. Come to the talk to find out how!
