Keith Achepohl is a nationally recognized artist and Professor Emeritus of Art from the University of Iowa who lives in Eugene, Oregon. His artwork is currently featured in the exhibition If It Please You Lord, on view at the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts until May 20, 2017.
The featured body of mixed media works on paper was inspired by Achepohl’s collection of ex-votos (an offering to a saint or divinity and given in fulfillment of a vow or in gratitude or devotion), amassed over a fifty-year period while working and traveling in Italy, Greece, Egypt, Turkey, and the United States. They were begun while he was an Artist-in-Residence at The International School for Graphic Art in Venice, Italy in 2010.
In addition to ex-votos, Achepohl has spent over 30 years assembling an extensive collection of African ceramics that has been featured in museums across the US. In his opening lecture at the Pearl, Achepohl will expand on his travels and life-long passion for collecting.
