Description

Lecture Topic 1:mplementation of the Namaste Care programme in the UK – findings from the research

The Namaste Care Intervention UK is a multi-component sensory intervention designed to meet the emotional and physical needs of people living with advanced dementia. This lecture will address the findings from a 3-year implementation study examining the process and impact of delivering Namaste Care in UK care homes

Participants will be able to:

  • Outline the Namaste Care Intervention UK and its impact on residents, staff and care homes
  • Identify the facilitators and barriers to implementation in care services
  • Discuss how the implementation of such care may be evaluated

Lecture Topic 2:Using the focussed interventions training and support (FITS) programme to reduce anti-psychotic prescribing and restrictive practices

The Focussed Interventions Training and Support Programme (FITS) has been shown to reduce the need for anti-psychotic prescribing by supporting care home staff to implement person-centred care and psychosocial interventions for residents living with dementia who exhibit challenging behaviours. This lecture will address the findings of an implementation study to translate the FITS approach into a model applicable for all UK care homes.

Participants will be able to:

  • Outline the evidence base of the FITS into Practice programme and its impact on residents, staff and care homes
  • Consider how the learning from FITS into Practice can be transferred to your care settings
