Description

Miguel Altieri is a Chilean-born agronomist and entomologist whose research helped launch agroecology as an academic discipline. In his research, Altieri works closely with farmers to refine sustainable practices such as biological controls for pests, integrated pest management, intercropping, and cover cropping. He served as a scientific advisor to the Latin American Consortium on Agroecology and Development (CLADES) Chile, a network that promotes agroecology as a strategy for small farm sustainable development in the region. He has authored more than 200 publications, including the book Agroecology: The Science of Sustainable Agriculture and Biodiversity.
