Event description
Learn about Edgar Miller's rediscovered collection of commercial mid-century home decorative design.

About this Event

For the first in our fall lecture series, we are excited to share a special opportunity to learn about a newly rediscovered side to Edgar Miller's artistic oeuvre. As a Chicago-based master artist-craftsman, Miller undertook a number of forgotten projects throughout the 20th century. This year, we will be hosting Bassett & Vollum, the prestigious Midwestern wallpaper design studio. Now based in Davenport, Iowa, the design company, in partnership with Edgar Miller Legacy, is re-releasing original Edgar Miller designs and commissions from their archived collection.

In this lecture, we will get the opportunity to glimpse into the world of mid-century interior design and decorative arts, hearing directly from Bassett & Vollum's owner and artisan, Duane Timm. The lecture will also cover Miller's original wallpaper design process and technique; the story of the commission and development of Miller's short-run collection; and contemporary revival of wallpaper craft work.

In addition, Edgar Miller Legacy will be hosting an open exhibition at this event of vintage designs and newly crafted reprints of original, Miller-designed wallpaper.

Join us for a unique, hands-on lecture experience and a chance to rediscover another forgotten aspect to Miller's creative genius with us.
