About this event
Cave de Tain Winery Tour & Tasting, 25 July 2022
Depart the ship in Tournon at 09:00 for your 30-minute guided walk through Tournon and Tain l’Hermitage where you will learn about the region’s history and pass by several world class vineyards. Upon your arrival at Cave de Tain Winery, located at the foot of the Hermitage vineyard, you will be led on a guided tour of the winery production and cellar facilities. Cave de Tain is recognized today as a jewel in the crown of the northern Rhône Valley for its prestigious cru wines. Learn how the Hermitage AOC, at only 345 acres of vines, produces some of the most sought-after wines in the Rhône Valley. The Hermitage AOC produces mostly red wine from the Syrah grape; however, small quantities of white wine are also produced from Roussane and Marsanne grapes. Following your tour, you will be treated to a private tasting of five exceptional vintages of Hermitage wines along with a selection of delicious local charcuterie. Following your tour and tasting, you are free to enjoy the 20-minute stroll back to the ship at your leisure, enjoying the towns of Tain l’Hermitage and Tournon along the way. We will begin our tour in the winery’s cask room where you will learn about the characteristics and wines that make Châteauneuf-du-Pape one of the world’s great wine regions. Following a sampling of wines right from the barrels, we will then taste three cru wines before creating our own special red blend from a tasting of regional components. You will rejoin your coach at noon and will return to the ship at 12:30 pm in time for lunch. (Note: times are approximate and may change due to unforeseen circumstances.)
