About this event
Najee Dorsey chronicles moments in Black life throughout history. Born in Blytheville, Arkansas on January 26, 1973, this visual artist and publisher of Black Art in America has become known for his mixed media collage, digital media collage images of little known and unsung historical figures, as well as nostalgic scenes from African American life in the southern United States. In Dorsey’s view, “Stories untold are stories forgotten.”
Join us as Najee reads a monologue he wrote based on a work of art he created called "R.D's Backroom." It's a true story about a life he lived prior to moving to Atlanta to pursue artmaking full time. "R.D.'s Backroom" is about navigating relationships with a colorful cast of characters, my failed run for city council, and running a business all while overcoming a gambling addiction. This story depicts the ups and downs of life that people rarely get to see and few have the courage to share on what the road to success really looks like and the various things that shape an individual.
