Event description

Description

Learning to Swim on an Ironing Board is a storytelling event about therapeutic eavesdropping, shopping centres and getting better at ‘not getting better’. This innovative show takes place in the comfort of Conor’s living room.

The show is about life events that turn your life upside down including chronic illness, the artist’s inventive and hilarious therapeutic strategies that no doctor would ever prescribe, mental health, and in medical terms, getting better at ‘not getting better’.

This innovative site-specific event mixes storytelling, comedy, video and puppetry, to explore the themes of invisible disabilities, isolation and self-care.

Whether on stage or in a living room Conor sets the tone for the informality of the solo performance through intimate conversations, videos and a small fluffy owl.

Next Shows: Sat 23rd and Sat 30th Sept, 4pm, Conor’s living room, Hulme.

There are a limited number of seats. Please RSVP for details and seats.

Brave, engaging and... well, just a little bit odd.”

People interested in disability arts and aesthetic, sit down comedy, heartache and humour in a living room (and Irish accent oriented ppl) - check this out. It's really good.”

That was gorgeous. You made everyone feel safe … that’s really rare.”

[You] found a way to talk about chronic illness and emotional health issues that has so much potential as an anti-stigma piece.”

Very warming! I found it a comforting and uplifting piece of work. I would watch again”
