Learning Through Objects: Museums and Young Children
Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 8:45 AM - Friday, February 28, 2014 at 4:30 PM (EST)
Washington, D.C., DC
Join Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center educators for a two-day program exploring objects with young to very young children. Together we’ll discover the rich learning opportunities afforded by the objects around us in museums, libraries, kitchens, and the local park.
This program features hands-on, object-based exercises, gallery visits, guided discussions, and presentations from educators and artists. Our staff will present information drawn from SEEC’s 25 years of learning with children in museums in combination with research on the science of learning to provide educators with models for more creative encounters with objects in and out of museums.
Come join us at the Smithsonian for a boost of inspiration or continuing education credits for DC teachers (or both!). Together we’ll stretch our thinking and explore some fabulous objects.
When & Where
Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center
Nestled in the nation's capital in the richest museum complex in the world is the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center, a model early childhood program that places children at the center of every experience. The vast collections are the foundation for the culturally diverse programming, which offer a rare opportunity for learning. Sharing professional development opportunities and family workshops are an extension of the school and combine SEEC's expertise in museums and childhood development.
