Description

This course is designed for high school students and adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD). This is a weekly class on Saturdays from 1:30-3:30pm in September and October. Instructor Cynde Vaughn holds a Masters in Social Work (MSW) and has facilitated social skills and community safety classes for people with I/DD for over fifteen years. This course is tailored to fit individuals with diverse needs and learning abilities.

Participants can expect to:

  • LEARN effective communication skills for different situations, including: solitictors, strangers, family, and friends.
  • IDENTIFY types of relationships, social boundaries, and set appropriate limits.
  • RECOGNIZE ways to prevent exploitation on the phone, social media or in the mail.
  • CREATE a personal portfolio with pictures and notes to help retain and apply information from class.
  • PARTICIPATE in role playing activities and interact with invited guest speakers that may include the Arapahoe County Sheriff and more!
