Event Information
Description
UPDATE: 7 JUNE 2013

Priority will be given to institutions that do not already have a member of staff attending when allocating waiting list places.
Overview
Institutions are collecting more data than ever before about their students and how they interact with the curriculum and each other. This has opened up unprecedented opportunities to understand the learning process and to provide targeted, real-time support to students and lecturers.
This free, one-day, interactive event will explore ways of working with data to draw out and share insights that can make a real difference to learning and teaching.
- Visualising data: speakers on implementing analytics dashboards, advanced use of visualisation software and overcoming data visualisation hurdles
- Working with dialogue data: techniques for handling dialogue data captured from online forums, social networks and feedback forms. Speakers on language processing, identification of dialogue types and creating measures of speaking and listening in online environments.
- Round-table discussions and World Café: a chance to discuss your thoughts with cutting edge researchers and experienced data visualisation professionals. Take away ideas for creating and introducing analytics quickly or experiment with data visualisation in our hands-on data hack.

Where can I find out more about Learning Analytics?
SoLAR defines learning analytics as “the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of data about learners and their contexts, for purposes of understanding and optimising learning and the environments in which it occurs.”
The CETIS Analytics Series explores a number of key issues around the potential strategic advantages and insights analytics can bring to the education sector. Funded by JISC, it is aimed primarily at managers and early adopters in Further and Higher Education who have a strategic role in developing the use of analytics in the following areas:
- Whole Institutional Issues
- Ethical and Legal Issues
- Learning and Teaching
- Research Management
- Technology and Infrastructure
