Learn to Prepare Income Taxes

Please read the revised schedule and format. These improvements have come from suggestions from students and prospects. They make the class more user friendly and more effective.

This is a comprehensive basic individual tax preparation course for those who wish to operate as a paid tax preparer. It can also serve as training for persons employed by tax preparation firms. The material was prepared by one of the largest independent tax preparation schools in the US, and will be taught by Michael Wright, owner of Taxwright with 25 years experience preparing taxes.

The class meets for 10 weeks, generally two nights a week. Each session is 3 hours, totalling 60 hours of instruction. The course will begin on Monday, October 2 and will meet on Monday and Wednesday nights thereafter. Class will run from 6:30pm until 9:30pm. Becasue of the Thanksgiving holiday we will not meet the week of November 20. The final class will be December 18. Textbooks and other class materials are included. There will be a wrap-up session available in January 2018. Our venue will also allow snow days in January if any are needed.

An audio recording will be made for students and will be available about 24 hours after class. These may be used to catch up on a class you missed or to review topics as the course goes on. These recordings will be available until the end of December 2017. They cannot be retained longer due to my contract with the publisher.

Also, a private Facebook group will be set up to allow students to interact and ask questions or make comments.

Those who complete the class will be able to prepare most common individual tax returns for single and married couples. It will also provide instruction for the various business related schedules on the tax return, but will not provide instruction in corporate or partnership returns. An Indiana individual tax return supplement will also be included.

In addition, we will talk about customer relations, dealing with reluctant clients, and other material that will help you improve your experience as a tax preparer. Conversations and formal role play will be included to help with this. We will help you apply for your PTIN, which is necessary to file taxes for others.

Students have until the start of the second class session to cancel the class and return their course material to receive a full refund. After that, refunds are prorated based on the number of sessions remaining, after adjustment for course material.

We will cancel the class (with full refund) if we do not have at least three registrants. This decision will be made at least one week prior to the scheduled start date.

Please note that this class is not eligible for any college or professional credits, nor does it qualify for any form of student aid or scholarship. This is a nuts and bolts training course for people who intend to prepare taxes for others for a fee. It is not intended as an offer of employment by Taxwright Inc, or any other firm that may sponsor a student. It is for educational purposes only and is not intended as tax, legal or financial advice. Successful completion does not qualify the student to practice before the IRS under Circular 230
