Learn To Play Cajon - Southern Spain Style!

Join us for an introduction to Andalusian (Flamenco) Style Cajon or Box Drum!
Join us in this fun workshop where you will learn some of the basic rhythms for accompanying Flamenco song and dance, such as Tangos and Bulerias. We'll also explore how Cajon can be used in contemporary musical styles such as rock, pop, , country, blues and more.
Also covered in this workshop:
- Proper hand technique for the sounds used in Flamenco style Cajon playing
- Exercises to help you get moving through patterns quickly and easily
- Palmas or hand clapping patterns used to accompany various songs and rhythms in Flamenco music
- Tips on how to count and understand the “1”
A great workshop for experienced drummers and percussionists who are looking to explore Flamenco rhythms to expand their rhythmic vocabulary, or perfect for those just starting out on Cajon and looking for a good introduction to the instrument and some basic, commonly played rhythms.
This is NOT just for percussionists interested in learning Cajon for Flamenco accompaniment - you can adapt this technique to any style of music.
Bring your own Cajon or reserve one for class use when you register. First come, first serve. *Limited number of Cajons available. Buy the "Workshop w/Cajon Rental" ticket if you need to reserve a drum.
