Using your own handloom and warping frame/mill, learn how to plan a warp and make all the necessary technical calculations. You will then go through the complete process of making the warp and threading up your loom. You will conclude day 2 by starting to weave and receiving personal tuition in weave techniques, processes and materials relevant to your ambitions for your weaving project. Detailed handouts will be provided.
Suitable for warping novices but who have some weave experience.
PLEASE BRING: your 4, 8 or 16 shaft table loom and warping mill/frame, notebook, pencil, pen, rubber, calculator, ruler with inch markings, masking tape or sellotape and fabric scissors. You may also want to bring a camera so you can take pictures to act as a personal aide-memoire for the process.
WARP YARN: Upon booking, please email Laura info@laurathomas.co.uk to discuss your warp yarn choice. With guidance, you can buy your own yarn in your chosen colour palette from recommended suppliers. Alternatively, you can work with wool, linen/cotton, viscose or cotton yarns that Laura has in the studio yarn store for a small additional fee.
WEFT YARN: you are welcome to bring your own selection of weft yarns, but you can also experiment with those in Laura's yarn store. This is included in the cost of the workshop.
