Learning Objectives:

•  Win negotiations when circumstances don't allow for compromise
•  Negotiate successfully in a highly stressful and uncontrolled environment
•  Master the psychological tools such as reading body language, analyzing words and behavior
•  Learn to deal with people whose thoughts and actions seem irrational and unpredictable
•  Apply hostage negotiation techniques to insurmountable business challenges

About the Speaker:

Special Agent Erin Bachmann is an FBI certified Crisis Negotiator and the FBI San Francisco division's Crisis Negotiation Team Coordinator. She has been on the team for approximately five years and during that time has experienced barricaded subjects, international kidnappings, and has deployed with the FBI's SWAT team on high-risk search and/or arrest operations. Agent Bachmann has attended numerous crisis negotiation training, including an intensive two-week training at Quantico as well as a three-day training on Negotiations with a Terrorist Mindset. She also teaches basic negotiations to local and state law enforcement officers. In addition to serving on the Crisis Negotiation Team, SA Bachmann also works Complex Financial Crimes in the South Bay.

Before becoming a Special Agent, SA Bachmann worked in the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit where she assisted with the development training for FBI "profilers."

SA Bachmann earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Whittier College and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Virginia where her research focused on interpersonal relations. Before graduate school, SA Bachmann spent two years as a research assistant at Harvard University studying judgment and decision making in a social context.
