Calling All Songwriters and Creatives!

About this event

If you love music and have always wanted to write a song, or you’re familiar with songwriting but need some help overcoming writer’s block, this class is for you! Join Lauren Jayne as she covers the basic of song structure, chord progression, adding metaphorical language into lyrics, and get songwriting prompts while looking at photographs. At the end of the class, you’ll have the option to share your song in a supportive and comfortable song circle open mic!

*Prior to the class please collect up to twelve images of photos either you’ve taken, clipped out of magazines, or photographs from your photo album. We will be picking four images to work with.

*Please note: Materials are not included in the class. You will need to bring a writing notebook and a pen or pencil. During our song share you can bring an instrument of your choice, but a guitar and keyboard will also be available.

Recommended age for the class: 16 and up

All music genres and abilities are welcome

Lauren Jayne is a local singer-songwriter/guitarist who fell in love with music and words. She decided to pursue a lifelong path in songwriting after graduating from college with a BA in Communications. Her songs have been placed on Nashville Songwriter Association's "Ones-To-Watch" list and have received an Honorable Mention from Billboard World Song Contest. Her music has been heard on WBAB's homegrown show, and Lauren has performed at nostalgic Manhattan venues such as The Bitter End, Cafe Vivaldi, and The Path Cafe. She performs regularly at local open mics, restaurants, stores, music events, and art galleries. Lauren has also appeared in American Songwriter-The Writer's Room weekly email publication as a spotlighted member. Lauren took her first songwriting workshop in Nashville to study with Gretchen Peters. You may have seen Lauren before because she happily works at The Nest!
