Description
A SOCIAL SANDBOX
for RAPID PROTOTYPING OF DESIGN FICTION & SOCIAL GOOD
Learn Do Share (formerly known as diy days) returns to the New School for a day full of talks, workshops, labs, hacks and networking. The event is focused on how storytelling, play, design thinking and creativity can be harnessed as an engine for social innovation and civic engagement.
This year's theme for NYC is DIY Urbanism
Join us as we explore how local communities are embracing DIY culture to change their neighborhoods. Every year hundreds of grassroots projects are initiated in an effort to reimagine and re-create the city. From transportation to health to education to disaster preparedness, citizens are rolling up their sleeves and coming together to design the world around them. At Learn Do Share NYC we’ll explore how collaborative action, design thinking, storytelling, play and technology can be used as tools for civic engagement and social good.
The day is split into a 3 act structure
LEARN (keynotes, case studies and fire side chats)
DO (workshops, labs and hacks)
SHARE (a collaborative action by the day's participants)
Program Highlights (full program coming by May 12th)
It takes a Village - a look at how storytelling, play and design are revitalizing one of the poorest neighborhoods in Philadelphia. A community comes together to shape their own future.
From idea to action - Learn Do Share has helped to incubate projects that have reached millions of people. A look at how can you move from an idea to an action and ways to harness the collective intelligence of the crowd.
Code Play - Step into the world of Beta where students learn to code in a playful way that empowers them to build their own platform games. Come find the game designer within you.
ArtHome - Join the team from ArtHome as they share how artists and their communities can build assets and equity through financial literacy and self-sufficiency.
Creative Entrepreneurship - step into a rapid prototyping session designed to help connect and amplify 100 ideas to improve NYC.
Wish for the Future is a framework for collaborative problem solving and design fiction. This session will be for adults but designed by and run by youth.
Lyka's Adventure - a look at how a little robot with a big heart is teaching students 21st Century skills.
Finding and telling stories with data - NYC Open Data has over a 1,000 data sets. Come explore how can they be harnessed in a way that creates empathy and emotion.
Special immersive experience - Throughout the day step into a futuristic NYC imagined and designed by a 13 year old game developer. This special ARG blurs the line between a present and future NYC.
And much much more...
Workshop, Lab & Hack Ideas Wanted
We’re looking for a few additional workshop, lab and hack ideas that match the DIY Urbanism theme of the event. If you know of interesting people or projects that are helping to make the city better through collaborative actions of citizens, we’d love to hear about it. Our focus is how purposeful storytelling, play and design thinking can be used as tools to build better cities.
