Our Lean 101 class will give you a look at the amazing possibilities for the future of your business! The emphasis will be on defining what a Lean Enterprise is and how it's different from traditional business organizations. You'll walk away with an understanding of the strategy and tools of Lean and their application within your organization, and you'll have enough hands-on, practical knowledge of the fundamental tools to begin making exciting, positive changes in your work environment right away.

About your speakers

  • Ruth Archer is the Director of Continuous Improvement at Michigan Technological University, where she manages the continuous improvement activities for the university. Ruth is responsible for training people on Lean thinking and integrating continuous improvement into the day-to-day activities of students, faculty, and staff. Before working at Michigan Tech, Ruth served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic, test equipment designer, aircraft electromagnetic signature collector, radar modeler, and current and future radar engineer.
  • Dave led the implementation of Performance Excellence (Lean Manufacturing) for several companies, both existing programs and ground up implementations. He began as a practitioner and has advanced to enterprise level PE Leadership. The framework that structures PE is as critical, or more, than the tools. He has helped many facilities roll out the PE framework, start to finish. He has facilitated well over one hundred PE team improvements, including Cellular Workflows, Standard Work, SMED, Material Flow / Waterspider routes, EPEI, 5S, Poke Yoke, Value Stream Mapping, Workflow Improvement, Plant Layout Redesign, Visual Management, Leaders Standard Work, Hijunka, Mixed Model scheduling, Obeya Creation, 3P to name a few.
