September 18 | 4:30pm - 5:30pm | Room 708

Shelley Bowen

Founder and Managing Director, Health Futures Australia

Dr. Shelley Bowen is a founder and Managing Director of Health Futures Australia, a not-for-profit organisation based in Victoria, with a vision of building a healthier Australia and placing value back on prevention. Shelley has worked on large-scale multi-stakeholder policy and practice initiatives addressing complex challenges including Aboriginal health promotion; primary health care; research, evidence and policy; chronic disease prevention; obesity prevention; and capacity building for health promotion.

Recognized as one of Australia’s most influential women in 2014, Shelley’s preventive health entrepreneurship has led to a focus on working to create a new social market for health and well-being outcomes in Australia through the design of transformative policy, practice and social change processes. She has worked at state, national and international levels. Recently, as the Senior Public Health Advisor for the Victorian government in Australia, she led the redesign of preventive health through Australia’s largest scale population health intervention – Healthy Together Victoria. She has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Health Education, a Master of Public Health and a PhD in Public Health (NHMRC award).

Shelley is currently a Social Change Fellow with Westpac, Australia’s first company and oldest banking institution.

This lecture is hosted by the CUNY Center for Systems and Community Design.
