Event description

Description

The Leading and Learning Series is a forum for community conversation about teaching and learning in K-12 and higher education.

This gathering will feature a short presentation from Valerie Torres-Solis, principal at Austin's Paredes Middle School, as well as the opportunity to mix and mingle with leading thinkers from the Austin education community.

Valerie Torres-Solis is the principal at Austin’s Paredes Middle School. At Paredes, Valerie is focused on a whole campus approach to teaching students how to learn and how to lead. Prior to Paredes Middle School, she was an assistant principal at the Gus Garcia Young Men's Leadership Academy, which was the city’s first single-gender leadership academy. Valerie was the 2014 Austin ISD Assistant Principal of the Year for her work at Webb Middle School, where she also taught sixth grade math. Valerie has a master's degree in educational administration from Lamar University and a bachelor of arts degree in theater from Texas State University.

Light refreshments, beer, and wine will be provided.
