Description

Leading Courageous Conversations on Race Equity

Addressing structural racism and fostering racial equity in one’s organization often requires “courageous conversations” that succeed only when the leadership intentionally leads the dialogue and considers it an organizational priority. A critical component for senior leadership is to set race-equity values and communicate them throughout the organization.
Facilitators will utilize various participatory methodologies to create and guide generative discussions in formats such as full group dialogue, breakout sessions and role plays to explore:
• How organizational values foster race equity
• Creating a Brave Space vs. a Safe Space
• Creating a shared vocabulary that moves beyond the rhetoric
• What is the relevant data that reveals race equity?
• What is dominant culture & organizational culture?
• On whose shoulders we stand: gain knowledge of the resources and reports available from the leaders in the field and organizations that have succeeded in establishing a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Key Takeaways:

  • Learn how to ground your organization in shared values that foster race equity.
  • Learn how to establish a shared vocabulary that allows for constructive discourse.
  • Learn how to collect relevant data to get a clear picture of inequities both internally and externally.
  • Explore how the DEI approaches of other organizations might apply to your work.

This workshop will be presented by Luz Rodriguez, Founder / Principal Consultant of Visionary Allies with special guest speaker Janvieve Williams Comrie, 2018 Soros Equality Fellow
