Pastor Cotton received his former education in the public school system in Duval County. Pastor Cotton received his Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Pastor Cotton earned a Master of Divinity with a concentration in Christian Leadership from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary.

Pastor Cotton is the Founder/CEO of Cotton and Company Leadership Group, Inc. which consults churches and organizations on staff development, leadership development, ministry development and other services that makes them effective in the 21st Century. Pastor Cotton is also a certified leadership coach. He writes a monthly article on Leadership and is the author of Journey to Effective Leadership, Dissolution of the Marriage of Assignment and The Wedding of Biblical Qualifications & Secular Skills Sets and Good Morning Max! Inspirational Thoughts. Pastor Cotton is a member of John Maxwell Impact Mentoring, a leadership mentoring group of 300 persons from around the world.

Pastor J. Scott Cotton is married to the former Paula N. Butler and is the proud father of one son Joel S. Cotton II.
