Join local leaders and professionals for a casual breakfast and meaningful conversation. Whether one's goal is business development or networking, all professionals have the capacity to grow themselves, their businesses, and their community, through positive collaboration with others. Our panelists will share their strategic journey to personal and professional leadership success. Together, they'll discuss the impact they play in strengthening our community. Please join us for this dynamic panel and learn more about our programs.

Leadership Rochester is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening our community through purposeful dialogue with diverse local leaders across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Established in 1991, there are over 1000 Leadership Rochester alumni across our region, including many notable local leaders.

About Our Speakers:


Cicely Strickland-Ruiz

Cicely has more than 15 years of leadership experience in the nonprofit, education and human service industries. As Chief Operating Officer at United Way of Greater Rochester, she has implemented strategies to increase revenue, reduce costs, strengthen customer relationships and improve business practices. Prior to taking on the role as COO, Strickland-Ruiz served as Chief Development Officer at United Way, leading a team of 20 fundraising professionals to raise more than $30 million annually through workplace campaigns, corporate giving and individual philanthropy.

Strickland-Ruiz serves on the Executive Board of RESOLVE of Greater Rochester as Vice Chair, is a member of the Irondequoit Public Library Board of Trustees, and participates on the RIT Saunders College of Business Management Advisory Board and Roberts Wesleyan College Multicultural Advisory Board. She is a member of business and community organizations including the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Rochester Chamber of Commerce, Rochester Young Professionals, Rochester Chapter of The Links, Inc., and Rochester Women’s Network. In addition, she volunteers her time as a mentor with Women Helping Girls and the Rochester City School District, and has prepared taxes as a volunteer with the United Way-supported C.A.S.H. program.

Strickland-Ruiz completed her B.S. in Organizational Management and attained her M.S. in Strategic Leadership at Roberts Wesleyan College. She is also an alumni of the United Way African American Leadership Development Program and Leadership Rochester. She believes in supporting the community where she lives and works as a member of the United Way Women’s Leadership Council and African American Leadership Giving Societies. Strickland-Ruiz resides in West Irondequoit, NY with her husband.


Mauricio Riveros

Mauricio serves as President of LECESSE Construction Services. Mauricio directs the day-to-day operations of the company, formulating plans and policies to achieve overall corporate objectives, ensuring profitable growth and fulfilling the company’s commitment to the community. Mauricio also serves as Chief Innovation Officer at the Pike Companies. His responsibilities include the development and implementation of all Shared Services for Pike-LECESSE. Mauricio is committed to raising the bar of operational excellence by streamlining efficiencies, standardizing best practices, and challenging construction and renovation projects to adhere to the highest safety and quality standards.

Mauricio is highly active in the community and currently serves on the following organizations:

Board of Directors, Upstate Minority Council, Robert Wesleyan Board of Trustees, Board of Directors, YMCA of Greater Rochester; Board Member, St. Ann’s Community; Member, Latino Branch of the United Way and Board Member, Allendale Columbia School

He has also received multiple recognitions and awards for his work in business and in the Hispanic community. In 2014, Mauricio received the Hispanic Businessperson of the Year Award from the Rochester Hispanic Business Association and he was recognized in the Rochester Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40” in the same year. Currently Mauricio hosts a radio program and TV show for the entrepreneur community in Rochester.

Mauricio obtained his formal education in Bolivia and holds a Master of Economic Law from La Universidad Andina Simon Bolivar and a Law Degree from La Universidad Catolica Boliviana. Mauricio resides in Fairport, New York with his wife, Bess, and children, Thomas, Oliver and Wesson.


Brian M Kolb

Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb represents the Finger Lakes Region’s 131st Assembly District in the New York State Legislature in Albany.

First elected to the Assembly in February of 2000, Leader Kolb was unanimously selected by his peers in April 2009 to serve as Assembly Minority Leader. Leader Kolb heads the Assembly Minority Conference on statewide public policies and legislative priorities. He is the longest-tenured legislative leader in Albany. In addition, Leader Kolb is the only conference leader who represents Upstate New York and who has successfully run private-sector companies. He was co-founder of North American Filter Corp, as well as the Former President/COO of Refractron Technologies Corp.

Under his leadership, the Assembly Minority Conference has been the leading voice in the State Capitol in support of policies including: government ethics reform, reducing taxes and New York’s cost of living, protecting the rights of the disability community, fixing educational standards and curriculum, addressing the opioid and heroin crisis, upgrading our state’s infrastructure and curbing domestic violence.

Leader Kolb has been selected seven times for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) “Guardian of Small Business Award,” was named the 2013 New York State School Boards Association “State Leader of the Year,” and has been named part of the “Annual Circle of Friends” by the New York Farm Bureau each year since being elected. In 2014, he received a pro-jobs rating of ‘100’ from the NFIB, making him the highest-ranked legislative leader for his pro-jobs record.

Additionally, Leader Kolb was named the 2010 New York State Rifle & Pistol Association (NYSRPA) “Legislator of the Year” and “2010 Man of the Year,” was awarded the 2010 (S.C.O.P.E.) “Sandra Lee Wirth Legislator of the Year Award” and in 2011, received the Seneca County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs “Conservationist Award.” In 2017 and 2019, he was presented with the bFair2DirectCare “There for Direct Care” and “Champion” awards, and the “Community Partnership Award” for 2016-2017 from the Arc of Seneca Cayuga.

Leader Kolb earned high honors while completing his Master of Science and Bachelor of Science Degrees at Roberts Wesleyan College and also earned his Associate Degree from Finger Lakes Community College. He lives in Canandaigua with his wife, Lauren, and has three grown children and two grandchildren.
