Event description

Description

Leadership in Policing is a two day seminar which will be held January 22-23, 2019, 8 am - 4 pm, at the Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science, University of New Haven, room 103.

The instructor is Professor James Albrecht, retired Captain (NYPD), who has researched, written, and lectured extensively on the topic of leadership in policing.

Good leadership in policing and law enforcement is vital to the organization and the members. Motivation, morale, well being, and overall health of the organization hinges on the quality of leadership. Leadership goes beyond the Chief executive, it goes through middle management to the ranks, and it makes a difference.

This two day course will cover the foundations of leadership in law enforcement agencies, the theory, and the practicality of leading in the 21st century. The concepts of organizational theory, contemporary theory, and future theory will be explored. Also, of vital importance, the areas of Equal Employment Opportunity, sexual harrassment, Officer Involved Shootings, officer safety and wellness, and the President's 21st Century Task Force will be covered.

POSTC RTR credit will be sought for this course.

Tuition is $198.00.
