Abstract:

Join the team members of the Aspen Valley Hospital Phase 2 project as they share personal experiences and lessons learned from utilizing the Last Planner System for approximately two (2) years on a multi-phase hospital expansion and renovation project.

The Last Planner System is a very collaborative planning process developed by the Lean Construction Institute (LCI) that asks for commitments from team members to meet the overall target schedules, opposed to the traditional method of dictating requirements. The goal of the Last Planner System (LPS) on a project is to manage and improve construction production planning by:

        · stabilizing the work flow through reliable planning

        · reducing waste by improving work flow reliability

        · developing a better understanding of the impact of variability on downstream performance

 

Over the last year, the project has maintained an average Percent Plan Complete (PPC) of 80%, which far exceeds the industry standard of 50-60%. Our presentation will provide an overview of LPS and give insight into the Aspen Valley Hospital project team’s lean journey. Shawn Morrison, the project superintendent, will share his experiences adopting the system for the first-time and transforming the way the team communicated and preplanned the site activities in a mountain community.

 The field and management teams from MTech Mechanical and Encore Electric will also share their experiences from a subcontractor’s perspective.


 

Value-Added Proposition (i.e., how it benefits attendees)

Attendees will get the opportunity to learn more about the Last Planner System from multiple perspectives of the project team rather than just the general contractor.  Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of experienced users of the Last Planner System.

As a regional forum for conversations among practitioners, the CoP will help create a new common sense for the AEC industry as LCI continues to build knowledge in design and construction.
