Yo Voy A Contar ¿Y Tú?:

Solutions To Secure a Complete Count Of Latinos in the 2020 Census

The Census is about power and money. The Census count determines the number of seats our state receives in the U.S. House of Representatives and how the government will allocate over $600 billion in federal funding to your community. As a result of the 2010 Census count, California received nearly $76 billion in federal funding. These dollars were used to support our local schools, access to health centers, job training services, and hundreds of infrastructure projects to strengthen the future of California.

But the 2020 Census is in trouble. There are over 5 million Latinos in California who live in hard-to-count communities in Los Angeles, Stockton, and Bakersfield. And, this time there are some big hurdles we must overcome: a leaderless U.S. Census Bureau, stagnant funding, and now an addition of a citizenship question that will severely jeopardize an accurate count of immigrants.

The Latino Community Foundation is expanding our leadership role to ensure an accurate count of Latinos. The demographics of our country are shifting, and the 2020 Census will be one of the most important in the history of our country.
