Little Chairs Big Differences Diversity Conference 2016
Call and Response: Social Justice and Community Building
The theme of this year’s LCBD conference is Call and Response, a form of interaction that resonates both with Early Childhood Educators and with Social Justice Advocates throughout the ages. Call and response singing and storytelling has rich histories in cultures around the world by building communities that are democratic, compassionate, just, and safe. Yet, in our current climate and culture, calling and responding to our communities, our country, and our world is a matter of life and death for many. Through call and response, we can build communities and culture where all children, families, teachers and caregivers have a voice, are heard, and have impact.
Join us at this year’s conference to call and respond by exploring race conscious classrooms and communities, listening to and understanding voices of caregivers and other marginalized groups, creating more inclusive environments, advocating for access and affordability, and by responding to and preventing violence against people of color, lgbtq, people with disabilities, people in poverty and other marginalized groups. We are awake and know this work of calling and responding begins early so that we can create a better path...not a cradle to prison pipeline, but one of potential and possibility for all of our youngest children.
In our 4th Annual Little Chairs Big Differences Diversity Conference, we will connect the idea of call and response as educators, activists, and people in service to all children and families with community building and social justice.
