About "Baker to Vegas"
The Baker to Vegas Relay is the most “positive” event offered to law enforcement officers today. It gives them a reason to maintain a physical fitness program so as to help them better perform their duties. Over the 20+ years the Challenge Cup/Baker to Vegas Relay has been run, hundreds of thousands law enforcement personnel have tread across the desert. The original ideals of the race continue: teamwork, camaraderie, physical fitness and competition. The event has expanded in many ways — most notably in entries and categories. The number of teams has grown 14 fold from the first 19 teams in 1985. The number of teams is now limited to 270. Categories have grown to include Probation Officers, District Attorneys, US Attorneys and full time civilian police personnel.
As a result of this growth the race has flourished. Today it is the largest law enforcement event of its kind in the World with teams participating from Calgary Canada, RCMP both men and women, Berlin and Hamburg Germany and law enforcement teams throughout the United States. The Challenge Cup/Baker to Vegas Relay is truly a National and International event.
Long Beach Police B2V Team
The Long Beach Police Department currently has two teams that compete in the Baker to Vegas run each year. Our teams have competed at the highest level, placing year after year in various categories. This year's Baker to Vegas teams have created this competition to promote our 2017 runners. We are focussed on Training, Teamwork, Comaraderie, and Family. This event will not only promote our 2017 teams, but also help us raise the funds to participate and excell in race from Baker to Vegas.
Each participant in our crossfit competition will compete in a "MURPH" style workout. This will include the following:
1 Mile Run
100 Pull Ups (Kipping will be allowed)
200 Push Ups
300 Air Squats
1 Mile Run
The competition will be held at the Long Beach Police Academy (located behind the Lowes at the LB Town Center). This is where Long Beach Police recruits have survived the rigorous training to become a Long Beach Police Officer. The Academy represents all of the hard work that we put in each day to be the most productive and successful Police Department in Southern California.
We invite you to participate by being a part of our Baker to Vegas team and competing in this inaugural event.
Sign up for the time slot that is best for you. The competition will be broken up into 10 heats with a maximum of 10 participants per heat. If you would like compete with a friend, make sure you both sign up for the same time.
**ALL Teams will consist of no more than 2 people. The two people may split up the workout as they feel necessary, but each participant must run either at the beginning or the end of the workout.
There will be prizes awarded to the best male, best female, and best team competitors. The winners of this event (people with the fastest time) will win a cash prize based on the number of participants in their category and will be honored on a trophy to be displayed at the Academy for all to see.
Although the prizes are nice, we hope you will come out to promote health and teamwork alongside our 2017 B2V runners.
We also invite anyone who wishes to help out (ie: Family and Friends), to donate to our 2017 B2V Team. There is a link to Donate in the Ticket area within this site.
Our t-shirts and wrist bands are being sold separately to anyone who is interested. You may also decide to buy shirts and bands at the event.
All participants will be required to sign a waiver prior to competing in the event at the Long Beach Police Academy. Waivers will be distributed via email after the participant registers and must be either scanned and emailed to the organizer 5 days prior to the event or printed and brought the day of the event.
