Description

Lazier Susan, Barrel-Aged Stone Fruit Sour and Someday, Rustic Saison will go on sale this Friday, 12/1 online at 12:00pm!

BEER DETAILS:

Lazier Susan (batch 2) - Lazier Susan is a seasonal beer that gets brewed once a year. This years blend spent over a year in French oak barrels that previously held Rhone red wine varietals. Our focus in making this beer is to feature the amazing fruit we get from Masumoto Family Farms on the Central Coast of California.

The Masumoto fruit is 100% organic and is thought to be some of the best stonefruit in the world. David Mas Masumoto is a Japanese-American farmer who has essentially dedicated his life to growing the best peaches and nectarines in the world. He's written extensively about it and has been a James Beard finalist because of it. In addition to that he has been a champion of using his fruit in making beer.

At Highland Park Brewery we try and pick varietals of stonefruit that have the most vibrancy. We're looking for high acid fruit with high intensity flavor. We feel that those qualities show themselves best in our beer. For this years vintage we used an even split of Le Grande Nectarines and Sun Crest Peaches at a rate of over 3 pounds per gallon. For the beer we essentially use a Lambic-style base of 30% wheat and 70% pilsner malts. We use aged and debittered whole leaf Hallertau Mittelfrau hops. For fermentation and souring we used our house mixed culture we call Zowza. The house mix is an accumulation of tons of strains of Brettanomyces, Sacharomyces, Lactobacillus, and Pediococcus cultures that have been procured through bottle dregs, spontaneous fermentations, and unique lab pitches.

1110 total bottles, $16/500ml bottle, 5 bottle limit, 5.2% abv

Someday - Rustic Saison (batch 1) - This bottle conditioned version of Someday is an immensely complex mixed culture saison. These bottles spent over 11 months conditioning. The core of this beer has a really vibrant lemon/lime acidity. Over the course of their aging the citrus tang has added layers of musty wood, dusty cellars, and lambic style funk. This is our first foray into larger format bottles (750ml) and extended bottle conditioning. We hope you enjoy this exploration of aged, mixed culture beer!

385 total bottles, $16/750ml bottle, 4 bottle limit 5.2% abv.
