Description

SEAWALL PROGRAM COMMUNITY MEETING

Laying a Foundation for the Future: Mitigating Seismic and Flood Risks Along the Embarcadero Seawall

Join the Port of San Francisco at the second in a series of Seawall Community Meetings to learn more about the Embarcadero Seawall, explore seismic and flooding scenarios, and participate in an interactive mapping exercise.

Together we will strengthen the Seawall, adapt our waterfront, and envision a more resilient and sustainable San Francisco.

Refreshments served. The event will be held in the Exploratorium’s beautiful Fisher Bay Observatory Gallery.

The event is ADA accessible, with access to accessible restrooms. Translation is available when requested three business days in advance at (415) 274-0400 or kirsten.southey@sfport.com.

If you have never heard of the Embarcadero Seawall before, you are not alone. It’s a rock and concrete wall, mostly hidden from view below the Bay, that stretches over three miles from Fisherman’s Wharf to Mission Creek, just beyond AT&T Park, and runs right along the Exploratorium.

The Embarcadero Seawall transformed what was once a tidal mudflat into the thriving waterfront we know today – it supports all of today’s activity along our northern waterfront.

The Seawall has served us well for over a century, but it is now in need of significant improvements to withstand the next major earthquake and protect us from increasing flood risk due to sea level rise.
