Judge Vince Chhabria

 

President Obama nominated Judge Vince Chhabria, to serve as a U.S. District judge of the US district court for the northern district of California on July 25, 2013. His nomination was confirmed on March 5, 2014 by a vote of 58-41 and received his judicial Commission on March 7, 2014.

Born in San Francisco, California, Chhabria completed his Bachelors' in Arts in 1991 from the University of California - Santa Cruz. He received a juris doctorate -- a professional doctorate and first professional graduate degree in law -- in 1988 from the University of California - Berkeley.

From 2005 to 2013, he served in the San Francisco city attorney's office as a deputy city attorney for Government Litigation and as the Co-Chief of Appellate Litigation. Prior to his public service, he was a litigation associate at Covington & Burling and Keker & Van Nest.


Judge Charles Crompton

 

Prior to joining the bench in 2014, Superior Court Judge Charles Crompton, of San Francisco, was the legal director at the Glide Foundation. From 1999 to 2014, he was a partner at Latham and Watkins LLP, partner and associate at McCutchen, Doyle, Brown and Enersen LLP from 1989 to 1999 and served as a law clerk for the Honorable Jane R. Rothe at the U.S. District Court, District of Delaware from 1988 to 1989. Crompton earned a Juris Doctor degree from Columbia Law School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University. He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Katherine A. Feinstein.

 

Crystal Cole Matson

Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights

 

Crystal Cole Matson is the lead Staff Attorney for our Community Empowerment and Economic Justice Program. Through Legal Services for Entrepreneurs (LSE), she empowers entrepreneurs and small businesses to break the cycles of poverty in their lives and their communities. Along with providing legal counsel and transactional services, Crystal counsels businesses on risk management strategies to help their businesses thrive. Prior to joining the Lawyers’ Committee, Crystal served as the Principal Attorney of Chrysalis Legal, a boutique business law firm. She also served as a Legal Research Attorney with the Superior Court of California-County of San Francisco and clerked at Gap Inc. in the intellectual property and real estate legal groups. Her undergraduate degree is from Spelman College and she received her J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law.
