Description

Net Proceeds Will Benefit The Commons Law Center!

Both lawyers and their clients are frustrated with our current legal system.

People who need legal advice face many barriers. They may not realize that the issue they’re dealing with has a legal component. Or they can’t afford to hire a lawyer. Or they did hire a lawyer, but the advice wasn’t helpful or the lawyer didn’t really listen to what they were saying.

On the flip side, lawyers are also struggling. The profession has extremely high rates of depression and suicide, and the traditional culture can make it hard to ask for help. Although some lawyers make very good money, many are struggling to make ends meet and are often drowning in student loans. Many of them want to have better relationships with their clients, but don’t know how to begin that conversation.

To address these problems, we need to re-think what it means to be a lawyer. What if lawyers were no longer viewed as “deal killers,” but instead as essential team members who can help clients plan for the future, avoid risks, and resolve disputes? The truth is, this is already happening.

The integrative law movement is a global phenomenon, and on September 22 it is coming to Portland. Thoughtleader J. Kim Wright, the author of Lawyers as Changemakers: The Global Integrative Law Movement, will be leading an interactive day-long workshop for innovative lawyers and social entrepreneurs in the Portland community.

The workshop will get like-minded lawyers and business leaders in the same room actually talking about their goals and challenges together. We will also hear from some of the lawyers in our community who are already practicing integrative law.

You don’t have to know anything about integrative law (or any other aspect of the law!) to attend. Kim will begin by giving an overview of the global trends that are affecting the practice of law. We will hear from local attorneys who are putting these new principles to practice in real life. Innovative Portland lawyers and business leaders will have many opportunities to connect with each other throughout the day and have meaningful conversations about the challenges we are all facing. The day will conclude with a networking happy hour.

Space is limited, so reserve your seat at the table today!
