Event description
To participate in entrance testing, applicants must be sponsored and scheduled by their host agency.

About this event

To participate in entrance testing, applicants must be sponsored and scheduled by their host agency.  Individual applicants cannot schedule themselves for entrance testing.  All testing commences promptly at 9:00 AM.

All applicants must bring a photo ID and $30.00.  It is the applicant's responsibility to know what tests their host agency are requiring them to take.

Entrance Testing consists of a Written Entrance Exam, the MMPI-II (psychological assessment) and Physical Fitness Test (no fitness test will be conducted during January).  The Written Entrance Exam consists of 100 multiple choice questions that assess one's abilities in the areas of Mathematics & Mathematical Reasoning, Judgment & Reasoning, Report Writing, Vocabulary, and Reading Comprehension.  Reading study guides for taking standardized tests is suggested, though we do not endorse or recommend any specific guide.  The MMPI -II is a mutiple choice test evaluated by Dr. Curt Bartol.  Physical Fitness Testing consists of a one-repetition maximum bench press, 1 minute of push-ups, 1 minute of sit-ups, and a 1.5 mile run.  Applicants should know whether they need to pass the Physical Fitness Test at either the 40th or 50th percentile.

In accordance with Vermont Department of Health Guidelines, the Vermont Police Academy is resuming entrance testing on-site with increased capacity. In order for applicants to participate, the following parameters must be adhered to, as no acceptations will be made:

Out-of-state applicants are permitted as long as they follow all the guidelines listed here: https://www.healthvermont.gov/response/coronavirus-covid-19/traveling-vermont.

Applicants must bring and wear their own facial covering upon arrival to the academy and during all directed portions of the testing process. No facial coverings will be provided by the academy.

Applicants are required to arrive in physical fitness attire if they plan on taking the physical fitness portion of the test. They will not be afforded an opportunity to change clothes on site.

Applicants planning on taking only the written examination and MMPI-II will be required to wait until the physical fitness portion of the test has been completed following their successful completion of the written entrance exam. We cannot accommodate two MMPI-II sessions at this time.

Signage will direct applicants to the testing location.
