In a perfect world, the development and launch of new medical device products happens on schedule, under budget, with smooth review and approval from FDA, and goes on to hit record sales. In reality, the road is long and has many unexpected turns.

Join us for this full day offering that explores factors that affect the success of innovations:

  • The process of market research and analysis
  • The prioritization of product features using market data
  • The Stage-Gate model for managing the device development process


About the Instructors:

Ilsa Webeck

Ilsa, a creative thinker and process driven planner, brings nearly 20 years in healthcare business strategy to the table. Through her experiences working on many product types, business models and planning processes both in start-ups and multi-nationals, she knows how to see the forest AND the trees. This experience has contributed to the success of emerging ventures and market leaders by uncovering value for new technologies. She has led process and product development through her work in orthopedics, cardiology, neurology, endoscopy, dialysis, hospital supplies, bioprocessing, tissue banking and hormone therapy spaces. Ilsa has particular experience helping companies build fact-based product and strategic plans that create value and advance organizational thinking. She enjoys working with clients to look for simple solutions to the not-so-simple problems.

Ajoy Basu, PhD

Ajoy is a technical professional with 20 years of experience in leading teams introduce products in medical device, consumer goods and other industries. He strives to accelerate launch of successful products by leveraging data to optimize the intersection of marketing (requirements), engineering (specifications) and manufacturing (processes). Ajoy has worked at GE, Covidien and other companies prior to starting his consultancy - alpha2infinity. He has a PhD. In materials science from the University of Michigan.



Getting Here:

1. From the quad, look for the Main College Building (building #1 on your campus map) which has a green steeple on top. Go up the stairs and enter that building through the glass doors into our College Center were you will see a coffee shop, Common Grounds
2. Take a right down the hallway into the main lobby area (towards the front of the building); once in the lobby, take a left down the hallway toward the small staircase
3. Just before the staircase, take a left, passing the bathrooms
4. The Special Functions Room is at the end of the short hallway.
