Event description

Description

The launch will feature presentations by Shantal Singh and Aurora Metro Books’ co-founder Cheryl Robson as well as a live performance by acclaimed South African playwright Ashwin Singh together with excerpts from some of his Durban Playhouse productions projected on screen.

Reference will also be made to Singh’s first anthology of plays, Durban Dialogues, Indian Voice, also published by Aurora Metro Books in 2013. This book is currently being studied and/or referenced at a variety of universities in South Africa, India, Canada and Europe.

The launch at the Nehru Centre, London will be a landmark cultural event as Singh is the first South African playwright to have his published works launched at the celebrated institution. Shantal Singh said that the event was being viewed by academics and theatre practitioners in South Africa, India and the UK “as a highlight on the artistic calendar because it afforded another opportunity to be exposed to the substantial body of work created by the acclaimed playwright…a body of work which examines Durban’s beauty, diversity, ugliness and complexity…and which explores themes of universal significance.”
