Latinx/e in STEM

Join us as we continue the conversation about what it means to navigate the STEM landscape as a Latine person and how we can move forward with the barriers that exist in mind. Our expert will share their lived experiences and career path within the Tech and biotech industry!

This program will be hosted in person at Waubonsee Community College. C2ST will work with our partners to ensure that COVID protocols put in place by the CDC, and the city at large, are followed and well-communicated. COVID protocols, and any other emergent information will be emailed to all registrants the week of the program.

Speaker:

Sandra Torres

Sandra Torres is a Senior Sales, Business Development, and Procurement executive with extensive global leadership experience across Procurement, Commercial Operations, and Sales functions, especially in the pre-clinical space. She currently works as a Product Manager with Western Digital, and previously worked within the pharma and biotech industry for over +11yrs prior to pivoting to Tech. Her undergraduate training was in the biological sciences at Grinnell College, and her graduate training resulted in an MBA from Gies College of Business (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign). She's worked with both public and private companies, and everything from small startups to global public corporations. She is a first-generation American, a first-generation college grad, and the eldest of three siblings with family abroad in Latin America. She also has an 8-year-old mixed poodle named Ares, who enjoys the many forests preserve trails in the greater Chicago area. She's an overall travel and foodie lover (currently 40 USA states, 32 countries down, and an avid restaurant week lover!), and enjoys exploring libraries and food markets wherever she is. Outside of work, she volunteers her time with the Chicago chapter of Women in Bio as a mentor advising other women at various stages of their careers, and co-chair of their sponsorship committee.
