"Latino: The Changing Face of America" Screening and Director Conversation
Event Information
Description
We invite you to join us for the UCLA screening of the documentary film, "Latino: Changing Face of America" and a conversation with director Roxanne Frias - an event presented by Theatre, Film and Television professor Kristy Guevara-Flanagan.
An insightful documentary by Los Angeles-born filmmaker Roxanne Frias offers a glimpse into the future of the world’s biggest economy – a future where Latinos will form the largest demographic group. According to experts, the number of Hispanics in the United States will almost double to 100 million in the next 35 years.
The central question of the film asks how will the growing Hispanic population influence America’s future?
Ms. Frias’ documentary meets the people behind the numbers. It tells the stories of those who made often perilious journeys in search of the American dream. Even as many face hardships and prejudices, millions have contributed to American society and the economy.
We meet their American-born children and hear of their hopes for the future.
"Latino: The Changing Face of America" strikes a balance between powerful stories of human endeavor and hard facts that point clearly to a demographic revolution that is taking place in the United States.
This is a not-too-distant future where young Latinos can realize their dreams of becoming the country’s opinion makers and political leaders.
This film is all the more powerful coming after a divisive and often times ugly presidential election. "Latino: The Changing face of America" offers a vision for the future of the country in stark contrast to some of the rhetoric heard in the campaign and more recently, from the new American president.
