Further Information
The number of people with dementia is a growing right across the world. In Ireland it is estimated that 64,000 people have dementia and projections estimate that this number will increase steadily in years to come. Dementia is progressive, and at the moment there is no cure. Family members provide informal care for their family members. There are approximately 50,000 such family carers in Ireland.
Responding to the needs of family carers The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (ASI) has been delivering education and training to them since 2009. In 2015 on receipt of Erasmus+ funding ASI teamed up with two partner organisations to develop e-learning courses. Flexible Education Norway support organisations to develop online and digital courses. Ic Dien is a further education college in Belgium that specialises in nurse education.
This is the second time we have worked on together, the first being the successful Home Based Care - Home Based Education project.
