About this Event

Sandy Bell is a songwriter, singer and musician who currently calls Woodstock, NY home. She has moved through a vibrant and textured musical constellation, playing most notably with the eternally brilliant Jeff Buckley, and contributed vocals on the Mercury Prize nominated ‘Bat for Lashes’ album. While Sandy’s music is expressionistic and lush, she is most interested in the ‘cathartic transmutation of grief into song’. A review of her most recent record by music journalist Alex Green honored the album by saying: ‘When I Leave Ohio is beautiful, resonant work that’s stark and painful, oddly comforting and deeply, deeply sad. Sandy Bell’s songs have such poetic precision and crushing emotional exactitude, her work is nothing short of staggering.’ https://www.sandybell.com/

Steve Koester is a singer, songwriter and guitarist who lives in The Catskill Mountains. His band Two Dark Birds recently released their third album Bow, which was called "a luminous and ambitious collection of poet-grade and quietly experimental folk music" and “…poised, structured, self-aware, ambitious." Prior to Two Dark Birds, Koester helped lead the bands Maplewood, Koester, and Punchdrunk, releasing many critically-acclaimed albums and touring extensively in the US and Europe. Steve has also written, recorded and produced a wide variety of songs for film and TV. In his spare time, he enjoys writing songs as well as writing songs. https://www.twodarkbirds.com/

Mark Rozzo has played and sung in various bands, including Champale, an indie-rock chamber group that released one acclaimed LP (Simple Days, in 2001); Maplewood, a three-part-harmony-heavy group with Steve Koester considered the progenitors of the Laurel Canyon revival; and Bambi Kino, a Beatles-in-Hamburg non-tribute band featuring members of Guided by Voices, Cat Power, and Nada Surf. Mark’s songs have appeared in Sidney Lumet’s Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead and have been covered by other bands, including America. Last year, he created the soundtrack for Audible.com’s New York Times bestselling rednexploitation-movie parody Stinker Lets Loose! (recorded by Don Piper), which is available from Burger Records. His upcoming Audible soundtrack is the Passable in Pink Official Motion Picture Soundtrack, out this fall from Omnivore Recordings. www.bambi-kino.com
