We are pleased to announce our 23rd Annual All-Day Academic Program Speakers: Dr. Kaaren Reichard and Dr. April Chiu from Mayo Clinic, MN

About this Event

Dr. Kaaren Reichard is Professor of Pathology, in the Hematopathology Division at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She was the former Chair of the Hematopathology Division and Program Director for the Hematopathology Fellowship. Prior to joining the Mayo Clinic, she was on the faculty at the University of New Mexico. She has authored over 100 book chapters and co-authored several books on diagnostic hematopathology, including the 3rd and 4th editions of “Bone Marrow Pathology, “ along with having published over 75 peer-reviewed articles. Her focus is on bone marrow pathology and test utilization. She also has a strong interest in medical education, which includes teaching at all levels of graduate medical education and providing workshops/CME courses at national meetings.

Dr. April Chiu is Associate Professor and Director of Quality for the Hematopathology Division at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She previously served on the faculty of Weill Cornell Medical College, Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. She has co-authored and published over 60 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Her primary areas of interest include aggressive B-cell lymphomas, chronic myeloid malignancies, and quality management.

Dr. Reichard and Dr. Chiu have given courses and lectures through several organizations, including the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.

As renowned experts in their fields, they will offer LASOP members and conference attendees their expert views on recent updates and practical approaches to topics in hematopathology for the practicing general pathologist, including:

1) Diagnostic strategies in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma

2) Updates in acute myeloid leukemia

3) Updates in low-grade B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders

4) New concepts in myelodysplastic syndrome and precursor clonal states [e.g., clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP), clonal cytopenias of uncertain significance (CCUS)]

5) Practical spleen pathology

6) Extramedullary myeloid proliferations

7) Approach to histiocytic proliferations in the bone marrow

**Specific objectives for each lecture listed will be available on the day of the program.

The Los Angeles Society of Pathologists, Inc. designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This credit may also be applied to the CMA Certification in Continuing Medical Education.
