LaSo Presents: 1st Latino Leadership Conference
Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 8:00 AM - Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 2:00 PM (PST)
Latin American Student Organization and its future partners are organizing the first annual Latino Leadership Conference at Montclair State University to stimulate young Latinos’ progress within the United States. The overall goal of the conference is to create more Latino leaders as well as taking the initiative to help improve the progress of all young minority students and alumni. With this in mind, the conference will highlight and raise more awareness toward topics of Leadership, and Politics. Some of the political topics that will be addressed in this conference will be The D.R.E.A.M. act. Students will be given the opportunity to network, gain inspiration through motivational speeches, and learn more about their own identity, heritage, and plans for the future. To accomplish these goals, inspirational speeches and workshops will be provided to motivate the students into pursuing a more constructive and open-minded ventures.
Professors and experts will highlight Leadership, and Political Awareness. They will also highlight the correlation between the involvement of Latino college students and the U.S policies affecting immigration, the economy, and our society. By exposing our Latino youth to their lack of political involvement, they will be able to understand the importance of filling leadership positions, essential for progress. By teaching the proper skills needed for success, students will be able to excel in leadership positions.
We understand that students have different learning styles that do not always apply to a classroom setting. Therefore, we have created a venue for them to explore their ideas, so that in the future, they can become fully developed plans. For some, this will be their first experience working with opposing viewpoints and passionate advocates. For all, it will be an inspirational experience because the agenda for Latino student progress is also the agenda for all students’ progress. This is necessary for the Latinos involved on campus, the Latinos in our Community, and for Montclair State University to acknowledge the importance of creating more Latino Leaders in our society.
