Description

Las Hijas de los Días. 7 Female Views from the Margins
Exhibition | January 27 - April 3, 2020
Airport Gallery | 3026 Airport Avenue
Exhibition Reception & Artist Open Studios | February 22, 2020 | 5-8 PM

This exhibition of seven female-identifying photographers takes its inspiration from the book “Los Hijos de los Días” (Children of the Days), by Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano. This title comes from an utterance that he heard in a Mayan community in Guatemala, where they believe time gives form to space. The exhibition space opens the possibility of imagining, creating, and being in a time that also gives form to a spatial reality. Yet with that creation, comes also the inevitable entropy and destruction of time itself. By reimagining a power structure where woman is the creator of life, this exhibition opens up the palimpsest of temporalities they present. Curated by Begoña Torres and 18th Street Arts Center’s Assistant Curator Frida Cano.

In collaboration with Promoción del Arte, Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte, Madrid, España, and Arttextum.
