Larry Fuller Trio
"In his amazing gossamer piano solos, he sprinkles stardust on whatever song he plays. You hold your breath in wonder."
~THE NEW YORK TIMES
Based in NYC, Larry Fuller is one of the premier mainstream jazz pianists living today. He is aptly known by critics to "swing like a beast!".
Fuller began is professional musical career at age 13 in Toledo, Ohio under the mentorship of Floyd "Candy" Johnson. As a young prodigy, he became a regular on the Midwest jazz circuit.
In his early 20's, Fuller's undeniable talent earned him the position of musical director and pianist for Grammy-nominated vocalist Ernestine Anderson. He later joined renowned drummer Jeff Hamilton's Trio before gaining the honor of manning the keys in legendary bassist Ray Brown's Trio. Of Fuller, Ray Brown said: "He brings vitality! He swings hard and I like that". Fuller has collaborated with many celebrated musicians over the years: John Pizzarelli, Bucky Pizzarelli, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Phil Woods, Clark Terry, John Clayton, Herb Ellis, Jimmy Witherspoon, Benny Golson, and John Legend, to name just a few.
Fuller has performed prestigious venues throughout the world including Carnegie Hall, Concertbouw Amsterdam, Disney Hall Los Angeles, Boston Symphony Hall with the Boston Pops, Benaroya Hall Seattle, Tanglewood, Shanghai Center Theater.
Today, Larry Fuller leads his own trio, receiving consistent praise for his electrifying and versatile performances. His latest, chart-topping, self-titled album on Capri Records (Hassan Shakur bass, Gregory Hutchinson drums) generated much critical and fan-based acclaim.
When it comes to musical influences, JazzTimes declared: "Fuller's polished technique stems from two of his main influences, Oscar Peterson and Phineas Newborn, Jr., to which is added the blues acumen of a Gene Harris and the swinging drive of a Monty Alexander....Whether playing rapid-fire, intricate passages or subtly interpreting a tender ballad, Fuller is always totally in command and engaging".
Larry is looking forward to bringing his Trio to Classic Pianos Recital Hall.
