Sign-up implies that you are OK with the following:

Bring a laptop. (And the admin password.) Bring a parent who will stay for the duration (unless the ninja is 12 or older). Make sure you bring your Eventbrite ticket either on the phone or printed! We expect this event to be fully booked, so bringing your ticket is essential. You can bring it in digital version (on a smartphone) or printed out on paper, your choice.

Please make sure you're booking for the correct group. Remember, we always have a waiting list - return your ticket if you cannot make it; join the waiting list if the event is booked out, we nearly always manage to allocate spaces.

  • Beginners' Scratch:  Never coded before or nearly-new to coding ? This might be the group for you - discover the coding application Scratch and create your own animations or games.
Download Scratch 2.0 offline editor onto your computer please before you come.   http://scratch.mit.edu/scratch2download/
If you've been to Beginners Scratch and found it really easy, please move on to Scratch+.

  • Scratch+: Sign up for this group if you want to take your Scratch skills to the next level. This group is for ninjas who are already comfortable with Scratch basics like loops and variables, and can write a simple Scratch program on their own. The focus is on kids working on their own projects. Doing some coding at home between sessions is highly encouraged!
Download Scratch 2.0 offline editor onto your computer please before you come. http://scratch.mit.edu/scratch2download/

  • Web DesignWe'll be doing HTML, CSS etc. This group is for you if you understand broadcasts(between sprites), networking programs in Scratch (sharing variables) and are comfortable building/explaining programs using the above. Newcomers always welcome!

  • Digital Projects (Allsorts).  We will be doing various things, newcomers welcome if they want some serious challenge. We may introduce you to modifying online games by reprogramming their code. We may build on solid Scratch knowledge and make things go whizz and whirr with our new Raspberry Pis. We'll see what exactly that means... If ninjas want, they can also work on their own projects, e.g. in Unity, and we'll assist them during the CoderDojo session.

We would like to thank our sponsor, RazorSocial, for helping us by covering the rent. Creative Computing Classes Skerries are providing the necessary organisational support.

Skerries CoderDojo

A monthly Coding Club for Skerries kids.

Digital Literacy, the ability to not just use computers but to understand how they work, and to write your own computer programs – this is what coding for kids is all about.

Skerries Community Association is helping to run this free monthly coding club for interested (future) coders age 7 to 17.

Regular Dojos take place on the second Sunday of every month, at least most of the time, and rarely in July and August.

Dates for 2016/17 as confirmed so far: __CHANGES CAN HAPPEN__
09 October
13 November
11 December

Tickets available from 5 p.m. on the Sunday before.

Join our Google Group to keep informed and to be sure to know as soon as the tickets go live here on Eventbrite! While the tickets are free, they need to be pre-booked every month. It is likely that they will all go a number of days before each Dojo…

Coder Dojo

logoYou may have heard about this movement which started in Ireland a few years ago and has spread world-wide. It still is strongest in Ireland, and Sabine, who is driving this initiative, was a mentor with the Dublin Science Gallery CoderDojo for a year. CoderDojo is an open source, volunteer led movement orientated around running free not-for-profit coding clubs (Dojos) for young people. Dojos are set up, run by and led by volunteers. Typically, children bring a laptop and a parent (who’d stay for the duration). They are mentored by people who work in the industry and / or have a coding background. For more information, their website is a good start!
