Language Learning Opportunities in Early Communicator Classrooms
Overview
Language Learning Opportunities in Early Communicator Classrooms - part of the WHOLE Approach
Make use of opportunities in the classroom to support language and communication
This online session will support participants to use opportunities available in the classroom to facilitate speech, language and communication, including:
- Facilitation of each child’s way of communicating, in context, using total communication
- Using motivating toys and activities
- Recognising and creating language and communication opportunities in existing planning
There will be break-out rooms for participants to discuss and support each others' learning.
Who should attend?
· It is essential that your SENCO attends the training along with the class teacher for the Early Communicator room.
· It would also be very useful for any key members of staff, such as TAs who also work in the Early Communicator room to attend.
What will I have achieved by the end of the training?
You will have identified your own Action Plan to implement in your setting in at least one of the areas covered in the training.
What do I need on the day?
Please print out the Activity Sheets 1 & 2 and the Action Plan. These will have been emailed to the SENCO prior to the training session. We will be using these to facilitate discussions on the day and we will be completing them together. The Action Plan will also form an essential part of our personalised follow up coaching session (to be booked separately).
What will happen after the training?
A few weeks after the training, someone from the SaLT Service will visit you at a mutually convenient time to find out how you are getting on with implementing the Action Plan in your setting, and to give support and encouragement where needed.
